Closing up your beds for the season

I know that many of you are planning to continue some of your vegetables into the Fall and will not be cleaning your beds completely by the 27th.  That is fine as long as you do clean up spent plants you are not continuing to harvest,  add compost to top off the areas where things are not growing in your beds, and mulch around the remaining plants.  You may have noticed that we are having some rodent action in some of the beds so getting any spoiled food out of them is really important.
Please see below:  You will see that the beds have been topped off with soil to about one inch of the top; then, covered with hay or leaves to protect the soil from erosion, add organic material and to prevent weed growth late in the season and in the early spring.
